Blue is an album of iPad generated ambient music. I used three different apps loaded with both stock samples provided by the developer of the app and a few imported samples from the Rubber Tracks Sample Library. As a method of working, I recorded improvised tracks by playing the app as an instrument. I add additional tracks without listening to previous tracks. The aim was to manipulate the samples, through the features of each app, and build up layers of generative chance occurrences in each piece. A lot of post production time (EQ, volume adjustments, added effects and filters) was spent shaping the sound environment of each piece. I recorded everything into Cubase and added no additional sounds outside of tweaking what had already been recorded.

Matrixxman’s moog loop, Brian Mcfarland’s Pantheon Steel Halo loop, Carey Clayton’s guitar samples.
